Creating a Story of your Own

Eric Carle is one of the most well-known children book illustrators. The Hungry Caterpillar  is the piece of work that I am most familiar with. His artwork is quite interesting in each of his books. He makes his own tissue paper using various designs and colors of paint. Once dry, he takes the colored paper and cuts out a design for each character and scenery for the story he is working on.

We did a similar project in class. Here is the procedure to the project and a picture of my example:

Day One
  1. Paint on either tissue paper or white construction paper.
  2. Implement texture onto wet paint using various household items or things found in nature.
  3. Let it dry.
  4. Plan out what design you are going to do for your story page.

Day Two
  1. Grab various patterned, painted pieces of paper.
  2. Begin cutting out the pieces to the design you planned out on Day One.
  3. Start to glue pieces together.
  4. Write a caption of illustration.
